Today, Wednesday the 26th of February 2020, in the offices of the Archbishopric of Athens a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the “Integration Centre for Migrant Workers-Ecumenical Refugee Program of the Church of Greece (KSPM-ERP)” and the International Organization for Migration.
Archbishop of Athens Ieronimos II adressed the head of IOM Mr. Gianluca Rocco, by stating that “the will is strong to support the program of the accompanied minors’ shelters, but with preconditions”. Those should be a) to choose the program’s children through strict criteria, such as their age, and b) to secure the program’s funding.
“If those preconditions are met, we shall do everything in our power to help”, he added. And continued: “We hope that when these children come of age they shall remember those who helped them”. He also sent a message to the European Union, by saying that “Europe’s borders are at theAegean Sea, not in Thrace and Macedonia. All our friends and allies are obliged to help us safeguard them”.
The head of I.O.M., from his behalf, expressed his joy and satisfaction for this cooperation and stated that he supports the humanocentric work of the Church of Greece.
During the signing of the Agreement, Father Panteleimon Papasynefakis, Director of the “Integration Centre for Migrant Workers-Ecumenical Refugee Program of the Church of Greece (KSPM-ERP)”, was also present, as he will supervise this program, that concerns the imminent operation of four (4) unaccompanied minors’ shelters. Each shelter will house and treat forty (40) children.
