SYNYPARXIS took part in the 17th European Conference on Asylum, organized by the Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) in cooperation with Diakonie Deutschland. The conference was held from 20 to 24 October 2025 in the Canary Islands (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) and Madrid.
More than a hundred participants from across Europe attended the event, including representatives of international organizations, churches, civil society groups, public authorities, and experts in asylum and migration. The conference opened in the presence of the President of the Canary Islands, underscoring the significance of the event at both regional and European level.
During the conference, SYNYPARXIS had the chance to present the project “COMPASS – Supplementary Mechanism for Support of the National Strategy for the Protection of Unaccompanied Children in Greece”, highlighting the project’s main actions to empower and promote the social inclusion of unaccompanied minors, linking them to wider national efforts in child protection and integration. Presentations were held both in Las Palmas and Madrid. SYNYPARXIS General Director, Archimandrite Panteleimon Papasynefakis, served as a keynote speaker on the panel addressing the role of European Churches in supporting refugees and migrants and in his speech he shared the basic implementation pillars and good practices of COMPASS, offering a meaningful Greek contribution to the European discussion on inclusion and protection of vulnerable groups.
The conference offered an excellent opportunity to showcase COMPASS at a European level, exchange experiences, and build partnerships with organizations working in the field of refugee and migrant support.
Participants also visited a site accommodating unaccompanied minors in Las Palmas, discussed challenges and opportunities in the European asylum system, and strengthened networks promoting social cohesion and solidarity across Europe.
* The presentation took place in the framework of the project “COMPASS- Supplementary Support Mechanism for the National Strategy for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors in Greece” with the project code 6010542 and funded by TAMEY 2021-2027.
