Archimandrite Panteleimon (born Georgios) Papasynéfakis is the General Director and legal representative of SYNYPARXIS. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the Department of Social Theology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and in 2019 he was awarded a doctorate with honors from the Pontifical Institute of Oriental Studies in Rome with a thesis entitled: “The Ravenna Text (2007): Analysis-Critical Review.”

He has been in the position of General Director of the organization since 2017, having successively assumed, since 2016, following relevant decisions of the Permanent Holy Synod, the position of member of the Executive Committee, Head of the organization, and associate of the Special Synodal Committee on Migrants, Refugees, and Returnees.

With its decision no. 4758/22.11.2019, the Permanent Holy Synod further entrusted him with representing the Church of Greece on migration and refugee issues before Greek and European institutions and organizations.

He is fluent in Italian and English, is a member of national and European networks for the support of refugees and asylum seekers, and has participated in numerous relevant conferences and workshops as a speaker. In addition, he has authored books, studies, and articles on theological, liturgical, and historical topics, as well as on issues related to migration and refugees.

In addition to his duties as General Director of SYNYPARXIS, he is Secretary of the Synodal Committee on Finance of the Church of Greece and Preacher of the Holy Metropolis of Nea Ionia, Philadelphia, Heraklion, and Chalkedon, where he has served since 1997.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the General Director include, among others:
  • Representing the “Agency” before any natural or legal person under private or public law, domestic or foreign, or association of persons, international organizations, European Union services, before banks, the State, and any organization, before any court, and in general before any judicial, administrative, or other authority, while also appointing attorneys-at-law as representatives
  • Handles corporate matters in general during the period between meetings of the Executive Committee and subsequently informs the Executive Committee, and represents the “Entity” during this period before any third party, and, following a prior decision by the Executive Committee, signs employment contracts, contract extensions, or dismissals for the Agency’s staff, as well as all types of cooperation agreements with the Agency’s partners, within the framework of program implementation
  • He is in charge of all other Departments and Offices of the “Agency” except for the Internal Audit Office, which reports directly to the Executive Committee. He is responsible for the efficient operation of the “Agency” he manages, decides on its strategy and monitors the physical and financial progress of its programs and actions, decides on the allocation of responsibilities to staff, appoints the coordinators and/or scientific managers of the Agency’s programs and actions, decides, upon the relevant recommendation of the Director of the Personnel Department, on the staff and associates of the programs, who have been selected on the basis of an approved recruitment procedure by the Executive Committee.
  • The Directors and Heads of Directorates and Offices, with the exception of the Internal Audit Office, which reports directly to the Executive Committee, are required to provide the General Director with any explanation requested of them and to implement his decisions. In addition, the General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Agency’s objectives and allocates its resources to this end within the framework of the budgets approved by the Executive Committee on each occasion, and supervises the proper and smooth operation of the “Agency.”
The General Director is assisted in the performance of his duties by at least four (4) associates, namely: 1) Legal Advisor, 2) Communications Officer, 3) Financial Advisor, and 4) Secretary
