The Church of Greece received the praise of the participants at the World Council of Churches (WCC) Conference held in Athens in the previous days, especially with regard to its humanitarian work.
Specifically, the WCC Conference working group dealing with refugees and migration, in its proposal, essentially adopts the work seen by the Church of Greece regarding structures for refugees, even asking for support for this purpose from all Christian communities.
The World Council of Churches’ Committee on International Relations (CCIA) thanked the Church of Greece for the visit to “Synyparsis” where unaccompanied minors are offered a multitude of services and assistance.
The Working Group on Refugees invited the Commission to propose the Church’s model of ministry to refugees and migrants to be substantially adopted by the ACT Alliance for future cooperation.
It acknowledged the “rich history of the Church of Greece in its cooperation with refugees since the 1960s and in protecting human dignity on its part”.
“We praise and commend the compassionate and extensive ministry of the Church of Greece to refugees, which is a living testimony of Christ’s teaching to welcome the stranger and show God’s love to those in need,” the CCIA said.
The Church of Greece, for its part, was grateful for the support of the Churches, especially the Swiss Protestant Churches, the EKD, Church Aid of the Netherlands and the CWME (Churches Committee for Migration in Europe).
