The President of KSPM-ERP, His Eminence Metropolitan of Ilion, Acharnai and Petroupolis Mr Athinagoras was invited as a guested speaker to the 1st Forum European Policy Dialogue Forum for Refugees and Migrants “Understanding Current Challenges of Refugees and Migrants in Europe: What Can We Do?, that was held on 20-21 of October 2019 in Athens, Greece by KAICIID.
As an introduction, His Eminence made a general reference to the refugee issue and its management at both European and national level. Afterwards He pointed out that it is time the EU implemented policies start focusing on a) the establishing legal and safe migratory passages to Europe, b) the fair burden-sharing in the reception of refugees and migrants by revising the Dublin Regulation and applying the principle of solidarity between the Member States and c) on cooperation agreements with third countries on the basis of the effective protection of the migrants’ human rights. Last but not least, the President urged to focus our efforts on the refugee minors, a vulnerable category that needs our full and immediate help and protection.
