“The Church of Greece will stand by the orphans of Ukraine”
The assurance that the Church will offer all possible assistance to the refugees of Ukraine, paying special attention to the minor children who have lost their parents, was given today in a meeting they had with the Ukrainian Ambassador in Athens, Mr. Sergei Sutenko, the President of the MKO ” Synyparxis ”of the Church of Greece Metropolitan of Ilio Mr. Athenagoras and the General Director of the specific Organization of the Church of Greece Arch. Panteleimon Papasinefakis.
This is a meeting in the context of the cooperation that the Church of Greece has begun with the Ukrainian government to provide, by order of the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Mr. Ieronymos, all possible assistance to the refugees. The meeting was also attended by the Consul of Ukraine and Minister for Refugees Anna Tyshenko and Mr. Volodymyr Liashenko, Head of the Political Sector of the Ukrainian Embassy.
Mr. Sutenko expressed his gratitude for the immediate mobilization of the Church to offer assistance to his Ukrainian compatriots, after the meeting he had, as he said, with the Archbishop. He stressed the fraternal relations that connect the Greek people with the Ukrainian people and the deep appreciation for the help offered by the country and the Orthodox Church during these difficult times.
For their part, the Metropolitan of Ilio Mr. Athenagoras and Arch. Panteleimon Papasinefakis assured Mr. Sutenko that the Church is ready in terms of shelters and staff, in cooperation with the Greek government, to offer immediate hospitality and any possible assistance to orphans. from Ukraine.
The General Director of “Synparxis” presented in detail the shelters and the program of the children who are already hosted from other countries, emphasizing that the Church does everything possible for these children to return soon to their homeland or to a safe environment. with the priority of reuniting with their families.
The two sides agreed to be in direct contact, in order to directly solve all the problems that arise and concern the families of Ukrainian refugees and especially orphans.
