At the Polish-Ukraine border, in order to ascertain the situation of the refugees of the war in Ukraine, an echelon of “Synyparxis” was found at the initiative of the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Mr. Ieronymos.
The head of the echelon was the General Director of “Synyparxis”, Arch. Panteleimonas Papasynefakis, on behalf of the president of SYNYPARXIS, Metropolitan of Ilios, Mr. Athenagoras, accompanied by executives of the Organization. The members of the echelon, along with the Secretary General of the European Committee of Churches for Refugees Mr. Torsten Moric, had private meetings with the heads of the border guard, the mayor of the city of Hrubieszów Mrs. Marta Majewska and members of the local Orthodox Church. They were informed in detail about the way to handle the refugee flow and the participation of the local community in the effort to support the refugees. Arch. Panteleimonas conveyed the will of the Church of Greece to assist in every way in the relief of our fellow human beings who are being tested, and also presented the programs implemented by the Church of Greece through the “Synyparxis” Organization.
During the meetings, as expressed by the Archbishop, the position of the Church of Greece since the beginning of the war, was underlined, that the affected Ukrainians should be accommodated in the shelters of the Church. In particular, the echelon of the Church of Greece assured that it is ready to accept the orphaned refugee children whenever requested, having all its shelters and people ready to act.
