”The Church is to serve the people” stressed the Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece Mr. Ieronymos during the meeting he had today at noon with the Members of the Board of the Inter-Church Committee for Refugees in Europe. The Archbishop welcomed the members and wished them to have a creative time and to have the opportunity to get to know the beauties of our country.
On their part, the president and his entourage thanked His Beatitude and expressed their gratitude and joy for cooperating with the Church of Greece. They noted that their purpose is to support the work of the Churches for immigrants and refugees and at the same time spoke about the need to support the Local Churches, especially during this difficult period with the situation in Ukraine.
Also present were the Chairman of the Steering Committee of AMKE “Synyparxis”, Metropolitan of Ilio, Acharnes and Petroupolis Mr. Athenagoras and the General Director, Archimandrite Panteleimon Papasynnefakis, as well as Archimandrite Iakovos Andianopoulos of the Inter-Orthodox Committee of the Church of Greece. Arch. Panteleimon referred to the long-term cooperation of “Synyparxis” with the Commission and underlined the Archbishop’s anxiety to support refugees and immigrants, while referring to the shelters that host underage immigrants.
The Archbishop characteristically pointed out that “the Church is to serve man. To support him in his weaknesses, in his difficulties, in his joys “.
